Application privacy policy

Tesla Dash app is a Commercial app.

Last updated: 01/05/2025

Information we process directly

To operate the application and provide its core features, we need to process the following information:

  • Authentication and identification: We use authentication tokens provided by Tesla to secure access. These tokens are stored encrypted in our secure Firestore database using industry-standard encryption methods. We use your unique Tesla user ID as an internal reference to link your vehicles to your session. We do not store your Tesla credentials (username/password).
  • Your vehicle information: We retrieve and store the list of Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) associated with your Tesla account in our secure database (Firestore). This is necessary for you to select and interact with your vehicles in the application.
  • Real-time telemetry data: To display real-time vehicle information (location, speed, battery, charge, status, etc.), the application enables Tesla's "Fleet Telemetry" feature. Your vehicle then sends this data directly to our secure servers (hosted on Fly.io and Google Cloud Platform). We process this data to display it to you and only store the last known state of this information in our active database (Firestore). We do not store a detailed long-term history of this telemetry data.
  • Limited command usage tracking: To prevent abuse and ensure fair service, we may count the number of certain remote commands you send each month. This count is associated with your user identifier.

How we use your information

The information we process directly is used exclusively to:

  • Authenticate you and manage your secure session.
  • Identify and list your authorized vehicles.
  • Retrieve and display the latest telemetry data from your vehicles.
  • Allow you to send remote commands to your vehicles via the application.
  • Apply fair usage limits for certain commands.
  • Ensure the proper functioning and security of our backend services.

Data processed by third-party services

We rely on third-party services for specific functionalities:

  • Firebase Analytics (anonymous statistics): We collect pseudonymized usage statistics via Google Firebase. This data (screens visited, features used) helps us understand how the app is used so we can improve it. It is not directly linked to your identity or your specific vehicle data.
  • Firebase Crashlytics (anonymous error reports): In case of a crash, this service sends us anonymous technical information about the error and the device to help us fix bugs. It does not collect personally identifiable information.
  • Backend infrastructure (Google Cloud Platform & Fly.io): Our servers and databases are hosted with these providers. They process your data (telemetry, authorized VINs, etc.) on our behalf to operate the application, according to their own security and privacy policies.
  • Tesla APIs: The application necessarily interacts with Tesla's APIs for authentication, information retrieval, and sending commands. Your use of the application is therefore also subject to Tesla's privacy policy.

Information sharing

We do not share your personally identifiable information (Tesla identifier, VINs, specific telemetry data) with third parties, except with the service providers mentioned above who need it to operate the application, or if required by law. We never sell your personal data.

Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational security measures to protect the information we process. All sensitive data, including Tesla authentication tokens, is encrypted at rest in our Firestore database using AES-256 encryption. Data in transit is protected using TLS/SSL encryption. We also implement strict access controls, authentication mechanisms, and regular security audits to ensure the ongoing protection of your data.

Data retention

As mentioned, we only retain the latest state of telemetry data. Authorization information (VINs linked to your account) is kept as long as you use the application. Usage quota counters are reset monthly.
